What is a STEM Innovation Zone School?

A Colorado Springs School District 11 STEM Innovation School is a public, choice-based educational institution within District 11 (D11) that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) through an innovation-driven, experiential learning model. Innovation schools can have the freedom and flexibility like a charter school but with the structure, resources, and services of a school district.

These schools are part of a broader district effort to transform traditional education by:

  • Emphasizing hands-on, project-based learning.

  • Aligning curriculum with high-demand careers.

  • Fostering creativity, critical thinking, and innovation.

  • Providing school choice within the the public school system.

  • Preparing students for college, careers, and innovation pathways.

CSST is a STEM Innovation School in District 11 that exemplifies this model—offering career-aligned pathways in Aerospace, Cybersecurity, Entrepreneurship, and Leadership for 9th and 10th grade students (with expansion planned).
